PARK Hospital Mohali emerges leading vascular trauma center in North India

Chandigarh: Park Hospital, Mohali doctors’ team including Dr HS Bedi director cardiovascular, endovascular and vascular surgery and Dr Vimal Vibhakar senior consultant general surgery and medical director shared valuable inputs on vascular trauma during a press conference here on Saturday.

Park Grecian Hospital Mohali is fast emerging as the Vascular Trauma Centre for North India . With the increasing number of fast vehicles and at times inappropriate roads the number of road traffic accidents is on the rise .

Dr HS Bedi said, “ India reported over 150,000 fatalities and 450,000 injuries from road accidents in 2022, involving many vascular traumas. Road accidents in India cause 19 deaths in an hour with 462 deaths in a day. Ironically a vast majority of the accident victims are in the age group of 25-35 years,”

Road traffic accidents happened to be the most common cause of vascular injury with 91.4% of two-wheelers in accidents. The majority of the two-wheelers were motorcycles. The motorcyclists are more susceptible because of the high-energy trauma to the unprotected extremities, he informed.

Dr Vimal Vibhakar said “ There is a drop of 5% in road accidents globally in the past 12 years , whereas it has increased by 15.3% in India.  People should know the importance of the golden hour concept, which means the first 60 mins after any accident are most important. If an accident victim reaches a hospital with trauma services and an expert medical team , a lot of lives can be saved.”

Time is of great importance in vascular trauma. If the vascularity is not restored in the least possible time, the chances of saving the injured or damaged limb are very low.

Ashish Chadha, group North CEO said that PARK Hospital Mohali is now empaneled with ECHS, CGHS, ESI, Haryana and Himachal governments and all major TPA, corporates and at kind of CTVS and vascular surgeries are routinely done at PARK Hospital Mohali.
