MindPlus aims to bridge the existing treatment gap and challenge prevailing misconceptions in “Schizophrenia”

This approach targets not just acute symptoms like hallucinations and delusions, but also negative and cognitive impairments—helping individuals reintegrate into society and lead meaningful lives.

Present on the occasion, another psychiatrist Dr Lakshmi Shodhana elaborated on the latest understanding of schizophrenia’s root causes, which include neurodevelopmental disturbances and imbalances in neurotransmitters such as dopamine and glutamate. Symptoms range from hallucinations and delusions to social withdrawal, impaired cognition and emotional blunting.

By hosting such awareness sessions across the region throughout the month, MindPlus aims to bridge the existing treatment gap and challenge prevailing misconceptions. “Schizophrenia is not a life sentence. With the right support, individuals can recover and thrive.” said Rajiv Thapar, Vice President, Mindplus.

Some patients also shared heartfelt testimonials which reflected their personal journeys of recovery.

MindPlus calls on communities, media and policymakers to join hands in dismantling stigma and advocating for inclusive mental health care across India.
