Edison Hospital launches state-of-art Kidney Transplant Unit80 kidney donors felicitated to mark International Women Day and World Kidney Day


Edison Hospital, Mohali a cutting-edge multi-specialty hospital on Saturday announced the launch of a state-of-art Kidney Transplant Unit.
The unit will be headed by the renowned Chief Transplant Surgeon and Medical Director of hospital Dr. Arjinder Bains, who have over 25 years of experience in successful kidney transplants.
During the launch of the unit, 80 kidney donors, majority of them women across the country, were felicitated to mark International Women Day and World Kidney Day.

Speaking during the occasion, Dr Akansha Sharma, Nephrologist shared the basic myths on kidney disease.
She said that while age can be a risk factor for kidney disease, it is not the sole cause. Kidney disease can affect individuals of all ages. Moreover, it can be caused by factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, genetic predisposition, infections, autoimmune diseases, medications, urinary tract obstructions, and lifestyle choices.
While talking about kidney stones, Dr Hitesh Kamal Urologist said, “Each year, more than half a million people go to emergency rooms for kidney stone problems. It is estimated that one in ten people will have a kidney stone at some time in their lives.”
Talking about prevention of kidney stones he said that one should drink water throughout the day, eat fewer oxalate-rich foods, choose a diet low in salt and continue eating calcium-rich foods, but use caution with calcium supplements.
