The Archaeological Survey of India, National Mission on Monuments and Antiquities (NMMA) is conducting a Two Days workshop (Hybrid Mode) on Documentation of Antiquities and BHS in NMMA Format (Northern Region) 02nd and 03rd December, 2024 at Hotel Shivalikview, Sector-17, Chandigarh. The workshop is being organized by the Chandigarh Circle, ASI in collaboration with the NMMA, ASI, Greater NOIDA and the Regional Directorate (Northern Region), ASI, New Delhi. Ms Kala Ramachandran, IPS, Principal Secretary, Heritage and Tourism Department, Government of Haryana will inaugurate the workshop on 2nd December, 2024 at 10.00 AM.in the presence of senior officers of Archaeological Survey of India and eminent scholars.
The National Mission on Monuments and Antiquities (NMMA) was established in 2007 to prepare two National Databases on Built Heritage and Sites on Antiquities from Museums and different sources in the country.
Objectives of National Mission on Monuments and Antiquities
1. Documentation and creation of suitable database on built heritage and sites through primary survey for information and dissemination to planners, researchers, etc. and for better management of such cultural resources.
2. Documentation in a uniform format developed by NMMA, of all Antiquities that are available in different formats in the form of Registered Antiquities, Catalogued Antiquities with Central as well as State Governments, Private museums and Collections, Universities, etc.
3. Promote awareness and sensitize people concerning the benefits of preserving the historical and cultural aspects of built heritage, sites and antiquities.
4. Extend training facility to the concerned State Departments, NGOs, Universities, and Museums etc.
5. Help in developing synergy between institutions like Archaeological Survey of India, State Departments, concerned Institutions and NGOs to generate close interaction.
6. Publication and Publicity.
The NMMA, Archaeological Survey of India is regularly conducting regional workshops to promote awareness about the tangible heritage of our nation and create human resources at the grass root level. The proposed workshop at Chandigarh Circle is a part of this initiative. In the workshop at Chandigarh, participants from different organizations like Circles of Archaeological Survey of India, State Department of Archaeology, Museums, Universities covering states like Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and UTs like Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir and Leh & Laddakh.
